Ricardo Armas. (Venezuela, 1958) is a photographer, curator and educator. He has lived in New York since 1996 and is a professor at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Armas received the National Photography Award of Venezuela in 1997 and his legacy in Venezuelan photography is crucial. He created and modernized the photographic archives of the National Art Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas. He founded, together with photographers of his time, the renowned avant-garde photographic group El Grupo (1976) and created the Manoa School of Photography Workshop (1985) that would train the new generation of young photographers. His work is represented in local and international collections.
